Kennedale ISD is committed to transparency and community engagement in the management of our library collections. In accordance with the Texas Education Code , Kennedale ISD policy recognizes that parents and guardians are the primary decision-makers regarding their student’s access to library materials. The information below is designed to support parents and guardians in understanding our library services and how they can have a voice in access to materials for their child.

Kennedale ISD Libraries strive to provide an inviting learning environment that maintains a print and digital collection that represents our diverse community of learners, supports curriculum, and works collaboratively with teachers to equip our students to be future ready and foster a love of reading.

Books Currently Up for Consideration

As of 8/20/2025, THIS LIST of books have been donated to the Kennedale Junior High Library. The School Board will consider accepting these books at the regularly scheduled November Board Meeting.

As of 10/21/2025 THIS LIST of books has been donated to Delaney Elementary. The School Board will consider accepting these books at the regularly scheduled December Board Meeting.

As of 10/21/2025 THIS LIST of books has been donated to Kennedale High School. The School Board will consider accepting these books at the regularly scheduled December Board Meeting.

As of 10/31/2025 THIS LIST of books is under consideration for purchase for the Kennedale Junior High Library. The School Board will consider accepting this list of books at the regularly scheduled December Board Meeting.

Campus Library Controls for Parents

Kennedale ISD contracts with Follett School Solutions to manage our library resources. Follett provides a way for parents and guardians to:

View the school library books checked out by their student
View the school library borrowing history for their student
Designate specific library materials for which they wish to restrict access to check-out by their student.

To access the information and set restrictions, parents will visit the Follett Destiny Parent Portal.

To access the portal, parents should:

Visit Follett Destiny Parent Portal
Enter the email address used during their child's school registration
Receive and enter a six-digit code
a. Upon each login, a six-digit code that serves as a one-time password is sent to the primary contact email address.
b. The code expires after 10 minutes.

Within the portal, parents may view their child’s current and past library activities and restrict check-out privileges for specific book titles or authors. The interface provides a drop-down menu for families with multiple children, allowing for individual access to each child’s library records.

If a student attempts to check out a book that has been blocked, the system will notify the librarian during the scanning process.

Additionally, parents may complete and submit this form to elect to receive an email each time their student checks out or returns library materials.

Library Collection Development Responsibility

Kennedale ISD is supporting professional quality school library services by ensuring a professional librarian certified by the State Board for Educator Certification or other dedicated professional library staff trained on proper collection development standards is responsible for the selection and acquisition of library materials.

Library material sections at each school are:

Chosen by the campus librarian in consultation with the school community and with consideration of parent/guardian recommendations
Overseen and approved by a certified professional librarian

Library Collection Development Standards

Our library collection is curated to support student learning, align with district curriculum goals, and foster a love for reading across diverse perspectives. The standard ensures materials are age-appropriate, inclusive, and educational.

All library books donated to or purchased by Kennedale ISD require approval by the Kennedale ISD School Board. A list of books that are donated or requested for purchase will be posted for 30 days before the Board meeting at which the books will be approved.

Reconsideration of Library Materials

There are several ways stakeholders may have input into library resources:

Parents and guardians of enrolled students, district employees, and individuals residing in the district may discuss any concerns regarding library resources with the campus principal or librarian, who can provide insights into the selection process and educational goals for library materials.
Parents and guardians may request alternative resources and/or restrict access to certain library materials for their student.
Parents and guardians of enrolled students, district employees, and individuals residing in the district may make a formal request to have library materials reconsidered.
