PRE-K REGISTRATION GUIDE

Pre-K Tuition-Based FAQs

1. Does Kennedale ISD offer tuition-based Pre-K for students who do not meet the eligibility criteria?
Yes. KISD offers tuition-based Pre-Kindergarten at J.A. Arthur ECC.

2. Do I have to reside within the KISD boundaries to participate in this program?
Yes. Students must be residents of Kennedale ISD.

3. How do I apply for tuition-based PK?
Submit an application on our registration website.

4. If I submit an application, am I guaranteed a spot to attend Tuition-Based Pre-K?
No. Enrollment will be on a first-come first-serve basis. The number of non-qualifying students accepted will be dependent upon classroom availability and staffing needs.

5. How much does it cost for my child to attend tuition-based Pre-K in KISD?
Currently, the cost for Full-Day Tuition is $500 monthly.

Step 1: Review the requirements to determine Pre-K eligibility.

To be eligible for enrollment in the KISD full-day Pre-K program, a child must be four years old on or before September 1st, and meet one or more of the following criteria:

is economically disadvantaged based on annual household income or is eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program.
has limited English proficiency.
is homeless.
is the child of an active duty member of the U.S. Military.
is the child of a U.S. military member who was injured or killed while on active duty.
is currently in or has ever been in foster care.
is the dependent of a Star of Texas awardee.

Step 2 : Collect required documentation to complete the Pre-K application.

Economically Disadvantaged	Paycheck, unemployment, worker's compensation, or disability payment stub. TANF or SNAP Eligibility Letter. 2023 tax return. Medicaid benefits letter.
Limited English proficiency	Home Language Survey.
Homeless	KISD Student Services approval.
Active-duty Military	Military ID. Statement of service.
Injured or killed while on active duty	Copy of death certificate. Copy of Purple Heart orders. Official letter from Commander.
Foster Care	Letter from DFPS or FORM 2085.
Star of Texas Award	Certificate of the award.

Step 3 : Complete and submit the Pre-K Application

Step 4 : If qualified, information on how to complete registration will be sent through email.

Kennedale ISD provides free pre-kindergarten to students who meet at least one of the eligibility criteria outlined by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and also offers tuition-based Pre-K for students who do not meet eligibility requirements. KISD is an open enrollment district for all grades, so families do not have to reside within district boundaries to apply.

Pre-K 3 Program (New)

Kennedale ISD is excited to offer a limited Pre-K 3 program for the upcoming school year.

Students must be 3 years old on or before September 1 of the current school year
Students must meet the same eligibility criteria listed below to qualify for free Pre-K
AM and PM half-day options are available
- Morning Pre-K 3 | 7:30 – 10:50 AM
- Afternoon Pre-K 3 | 11:55 AM – 3:15 PM
Families may indicate a preferred session, and the district will make an effort to accommodate preferences based on availability

Pre-K 4 Eligibility

Per the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Pre-Kindergarten is offered to all eligible children who are four years old by September 1st of the current year AND who meet at least one of the following criteria:

Be unable to speak and comprehend the English language;
Be economically disadvantaged (I.e., eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program);
Be homeless, as defined by 42 United States Code (U.S.C.) Section 1143a;
Be the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority;
Be the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty;
Be in, or have been in, the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code;
Be the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as a peace officer (3106.02), firefighter (3106.003), or emergency medical first responder (3106.004). (Texas Education Agency, 2019)
