About Special Education

Kennedale ISD Special Education Department is dedicated to providing quality educational services in the least restrictive environment to students with disabilities. The mission of the Kennedale Independent School District is to provide a diverse, engaging, and safe environment where all stakeholders are responsible and accountable for student success.  The Special Education Department provides a continuum of services and related services to meet the needs of eligible students. Services are provided to students with disabiities in the least restrictive environment to the extent that is appropriate for the student.

The Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee determines services for individual students with disabilities.  The ARD committee consists of a variety of stakeholders, including parents, teachers, administrators, and specialists who work with the student. This team meets to consider specific student needs and develop an Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Kennedale ISD follows the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA). The IDEA ensures that children with disabilities are provided a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) with specially designed instruction and services to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living.
