Section 504
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a federal civil rights law that focuses on the non-discrimination of students with disabilities.
Under §504, students with disabilities may receive accommodations and services to ensure that their individual educational needs are met as adequately of those of non-disabled.
For purposes of §504, a person with a disability is one who:
- Has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities;
- Has a record of such an impairment; or
- Is regarded as having such an impairment.
