School Health Advisory Council

What is SHAC?

• A group of individuals that represent the segments of the Coordinated School Health Model recruited or appointed by the School Board of trustees.

SHACS provide recommendations on school health and safety as necessary to be in compliance with state and federal law and as beneficial to the students of the district.

SHACS DO NOT HAVE LEGAL AUTHORITY

MISSION
 
Kennedale I.S.D. School Health Advisory Council's mission is to promote school practices and policies that will improve and maintain the health and wellness of its students, faculty, and community members.
 
VISION
 
All Kennedale I.S.D. students will reach their full personal, health, and academic potential.
 
ONLINE SURVEY RESULTS
 
An online survey was created with 4 questions which reflected health related issues and posted from 4/22-4/30 -101 participants

1. Your child has the opportunity to learn in a safe environment. 99% agreed

2. Your child receives enough Physical Education time during the school week. 83% agreed

3. Your child received age appropriate Health Education. 85% agreed

4. Your child receives a nutritious breakfast and lunch at school. 64%

Stephanie Dugger also reported on the district drug survey that was completed this spring by grades 5, 8, and 10.

RECOMMENDATION
 
Measurable health goal recommendation for all Campus Improvement Plans for 2010-11

Currently there are five committee members. Recommendation from all committee members to increase committee to include a food service representative, two more parents, two more community members, and a representative from KISD central office administration.

S.H.A.C. will reconvene in the fall in October 2010.
