Student success in mathematics comes with practice. A vast majority of this practice appears in the form of homework assignments. The math department has a zero tolerance policy for incomplete homework assignments. We have set a new policy to encourage student compliance with our homework requirements.

Policy:

1.     Students are expected to have their homework assignments completed when they walk into the classroom on the day it is due.

2.    If a student does not have their assignment completed, they will need to do the following things:

a.    Fill out a “behavior reflections” thinking map.

b.    Turn in their assignment 1day late for 70% credit.

c.     If assignment is not turned in 1 day late, they will be assigned mandatory tutoring. They will have 2 tutoring days to comply (due dates on “behavior reflections” map). They will receive 50% credit on their assignment (normal school policy states the student should receive a zero)

d.    If the student does not attend mandatory tutoring, s/he will be assigned a d-hall for noncompliance and will receive a zero on the assignment.

e.     If a student is assigned more than 2 d-halls in a six week period, parent will be contacted for a teaming meeting.

It is our hope that our homework policy will encourage students to do and keep upwith their assignments each night. They will see an increase in their cycle grades, benchmark grades, and good performance on their STAAR test.
